Agricultural Mechanic

This is a well-established, large-scale irrigated horticulture enterprise based at Parilla in the SA Mallee, with additional operations at Virginia. The business runs a continuous year-round production program across potatoes, carrots and onions — supplying major Australian retailers and food manufacturers — across around 15,000 hectares of cropping land. The machinery fleet is extensive: John Deere and Fendt tractors, chaser bins, self-propelled Dewulf, Grimme, Spudnik and Asa-Lift vegetable harvesters, trucks and trailers, and centre pivot irrigation systems. Keeping this fleet operational is critical to the business — and that's where the workshop team comes in. The business is growing and investing heavily in its infrastructure and people. A full-time Mechanic position based in the workshop at Parilla, reporting to the Workshop Manager. This is a hands-on role across a wide range of agricultural and commercial vehicles and equipment — no two days are the same. Key duties include: 🔸 Routine servicing, maintenance and modifications to all farm vehicles and equipment 🔸 Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults in engines, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components 🔸 Dismantling, repairing and reassembling engine assemblies and mechanical components 🔸 Performing scheduled maintenance services including oil changes, lubrications and engine tune-ups 🔸 Testing and adjusting mechanical parts after repair to ensure proper performance 🔸 Responding to emergency vehicle breakdown calls — including after hours when required 🔸 Maintaining accurate records of maintenance history for all farm vehicles 🔸 Procuring parts and equipment in line with company procedures 🔸 Providing feedback to drivers and operators on the routine care of vehicles 🔸 Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop environment 🔸 Working in line with WHS, food safety and Freshcare quality standards at all times This role suits a qualified, self-motivated mechanic who can diagnose confidently, work efficiently to a schedule, and handle the pressure that comes with keeping a 24/7 operation on the road.

• Certificate IV (trade qualification) in a mechanical field plus a minimum of 2 years relevant experience — OR at least 3 years of equivalent hands-on experience • Proven experience in mechanical services across engines, transmissions and electrical systems • Ability to confidently diagnose faults both on-site and in the workshop • Strong knowledge of tools, equipment and materials used in engine repair and maintenance • Familiarity with standards and regulations applicable to a mechanical workshop environment • Unrestricted Class C Driver's Licence — essential • Availability to work weekends and after hours on a rotating roster, including emergency breakdowns • Team-first attitude with respect for a diverse, multicultural workplace • Strong work ethic and willingness to be hands-on across a broad range of duties
