About | AgRec — Regional Recruitment Specialists
Our story

Built from
the Ground
Up.

AgRec started as an agricultural contracting business in Kojonup, WA. We built a recruitment agency because we experienced the problem firsthand — and nobody was solving it properly.

Where we came from

Why AgRec Exists.

AgRec was founded out of what began as a small agricultural contracting business based in AgRec. After years of working hands-on with farmers and watching the same problem play out season after season — good operations struggling to find skilled, reliable people — we recognised a bigger need.

Existing recruitment agencies didn't understand agriculture. They didn't know what a good candidate actually looked like in a paddock, on a station, or behind the wheel of a header. They matched resumes to job descriptions and hoped for the best.

AgRec was built to do it differently. We recruit exclusively in agriculture, pastoral, and regional industries because that depth of knowledge is what separates a good placement from a great one. Today we support farming businesses, stations, and regional employers across WA and Queensland — and we're expanding into regional mining and resources.

100% Australian owned and operated by a rural farming family. That's not a marketing line — it's who we are.

Managing Director

Jimmy McKenzie.

Born and raised in AgRec, Jimmy McKenzie built his career from the ground up within the agricultural industry he grew up in. He worked hands-on as a farm contractor throughout the Great Southern — seeding, spraying, harvest operations, and livestock management — before founding AgRec.

That direct on-farm background is what makes AgRec different. Jimmy assesses candidates the way a farmer would, not the way an HR manager would. He understands what it takes to work in regional and remote environments, what good work ethic looks like in practice, and what a farm business actually needs from a hire — beyond what's written on a resume.

He holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Business and combines that formal training with years of practical experience across broadacre and mixed farming operations. AgRec is built on that combination — industry knowledge you can only get from having been there.

"If you've worked the land, you know what it takes. That's how we find the right people."

What we stand for

How We Operate.

01
Regional expertise, not generalist guesswork
We only recruit in agriculture, pastoral, and regional industries. Not retail on the side. Not office roles during the quiet season. That focus means our networks are deeper and our understanding of what you need is sharper.
02
Candidates assessed like a farmer would
Skills matter, but so does attitude, work ethic, and whether someone can handle remote living. We assess all of it — because a technically qualified candidate who doesn't suit the environment won't last a season.
03
Straight talk, no runaround
We tell you what's realistic, what the market looks like, and what a role will take to fill. If we can't help, we'll say so. Farmers don't have time for fluff and neither do we.

Our commitments

What You Can Expect.

01
No hire, no fee — always
Our contingency model means you only pay when we deliver. No retainers, no listing fees, no upfront costs. If we don't find the right person, you don't pay a cent.
02
Reference checked before you see them
Every candidate we present has been fully reference checked. We conduct at least two references and ask the kinds of questions that matter for on-farm and on-site work.
03
A tight shortlist, not a flood of applications
We do the filtering. You get two to four candidates we'd genuinely recommend — not a pile of resumes to sort through yourself. Your time is better spent running your operation.
04
We stand behind every placement
If a placed candidate doesn't work out within the warranty period, we'll work to find a replacement. We'd rather make it right than leave you short-handed when it matters most.
