📍 Irwin District, Mid West WA $75,000 to $90,000 per annum, depending on experience

A well established family owned mixed enterprise operation in the Irwin district of WA's Mid West is seeking an experienced Livestock Farm Hand to join their team. Running a large scale self replacing merino and beef operation alongside a substantial cropping program, this is a genuine opportunity for a livestock focused person to take real responsibility on a progressive, well resourced property close to the coast.

🌾 About the Operation
A 12,000 hectare mixed enterprise operation running grain, meat and wool. The cropping program covers 5,500 hectares of wheat, lupins and canola, run primarily on John Deere equipment with GPS, autosteer and AgWorld used across the farm. On the livestock side, the operation runs 9,500 self replacing merino breeding ewes, finishing around 7,000 crossbred and merino wether lambs each year for the domestic market on fodder crops or in the feedlot. A self replacing herd of 350 breeding cows is also run, with weaners turned off to local feedlots. The property is well set up with two shearing sheds and associated yards.
🔧 About the Role
This is primarily a livestock role, with some cross over into the cropping operation at busy times of year. You will be responsible for the day to day handling of both sheep and cattle, along with the maintenance of the infrastructure that supports them.
  • General livestock handling across sheep and cattle enterprises
  • Moving large mobs of sheep, at times 500 to 1,000 head
  • Maintenance of yards, sheds, fencing and other livestock infrastructure
  • Some involvement in the cropping program during peak periods
  • General farm and machinery upkeep, with scope to build welding skills
  • Working closely with the owners, with genuine opportunity to learn and take on responsibility
✅ What You'll Need
  • 2 to 3 years previous livestock handling experience with both sheep and cattle
  • Confidence handling and moving large mobs of sheep
  • HR license preferred
  • Some mechanical knowledge preferred
  • Welding knowledge, or a keen willingness to learn
  • Initiative, honesty and open communication

📍 Location
Located in the Irwin district of WA's Mid West, around 30km from the coastal community of Dongara, home to a District High School.
