A well established 2,400 hectare cropping operation at Brookton in WA's Wheatbelt is on the lookout for an experienced Senior Farm Hand to join their team. Running a mostly John Deere fleet on a 12m controlled traffic system guided by Greenstar RTK, you'll be involved across the full cropping program from seeding through to harvest, along with road train operation and general mechanical work. If you've got solid broadacre cropping experience, some mechanical know how, and want a hands on role with genuine variety, this one's worth a look.
🌾 About the Operation
This 2,400 hectare operation at Brookton in WA's Wheatbelt is 100% cropping, growing wheat, barley, canola, lupins and oaten hay. The machinery fleet is predominantly John Deere across a mix of ages, running a 12m controlled traffic farming system guided by John Deere Greenstar RTK. Significant soil amelioration work has been carried out across much of the farm, including deep ripping, delving and spading, with surface and subsoil drainage now an expanding area of focus. The operation is also starting into drone mapping, with a drone sprayer likely to be added down the track.

🔧 About the Role
You'll be involved across the full farming calendar, with responsibilities including:
- Operating the road train during harvest, and potentially carting lime in January
- Operating tractors throughout the season, including lime spreading and deep ripping
- Running the seeder during the seeding program
- In crop spraying
- General mechanical work and routine servicing, with more advanced mechanical skill highly regarded
- Lending a hand with metal fabrication, a genuine advantage if this is a skill you bring
✅ What You'll Need
- Sound broadacre cropping experience with confidence operating a modern machinery fleet
- HR or MC licence, or a genuine willingness to work towards one, for road train operation
- Some mechanical aptitude, with more advanced mechanical or fabrication skills highly regarded
- Current chemical accreditation, or willingness to obtain it, for in crop spraying duties
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently
- Sound written and verbal communication skills in English
Desirable: experience with John Deere Greenstar RTK or similar GPS/precision ag systems, exposure to drone mapping, and a general willingness to turn your hand to whatever the season requires.

Hours will vary with the farming calendar, with flexibility required during peak periods such as seeding, in crop spraying and harvest, including road train and lime carting duties over the January period.
🏠 Accommodation
A 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom fibro home is provided on the operation's second farm, adjoining the main property. The home has a 2 car carport / open garage, solar power, a recently upgraded kitchen, air conditioning in some rooms, and a large garden area with plenty of water available. It's unfurnished, with a workshop and sheds close by, and good mobile phone coverage for mobile broadband. The home is around 34km from Brookton, with frontage to the Brookton Highway.
📍 Location
Brookton is a friendly Wheatbelt town around 140km southeast of Perth, with an IGA supermarket, district high school, medical centre, hotel, fuel stations, cafe and Mitre 10 hardware store. The town also has golf, cricket, football and other sporting clubs, making it easy to get involved in the local community.
